PE Consulting helped Cleantech San Diego and a coalition of San Diego organizations, agencies and municipalities apply for over $260 million in federal funds for Clean Renewable Energy Bonds (CREBS) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. If approved, this would support more than 160 new solar projects generating over 26 megawatts of power. Nine local municipal agencies, ranging from cities to school districts, filed for the CREB funds, which allow recipients the ability to issue no or low-interest bonds to finance renewable energy projects. The cities of Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, Fallbrook and Santee each filed multiple applications along with several school districts, water authorities and other public agencies. Proposed solar installation sites run the gamut from new civic centers and libraries to recreational centers and animal shelters. The San Diego CREBS coalition consists of CleanTECH San Diego, PE Consulting, California Center for Sustainable Energy, UC San Diego, Latham & Watkins LLP, Stone & Youngberg, San Diego Foundation, Southern Contracting Inc. and MuniBond Solar, along with the agencies and municipalities submitting applications.
